In memory of my great grandmother who I was told never did actually learn how to speak fluent Tagalog. She preferred talking to inanimate objects than actual people--most probably in her native tongue. And they thought she was a snob! These people!
(Makes sense to me, I'd do that also if every time I speak people would give me stares because they don't understand a word I'm saying. I won't mind if they call me loony either.)
